Research shows ‘substantial’ cardiovascular risk among patients with head and neck cancer

A retrospective study of U.S. veterans with newly diagnosed head and neck squamous cell carcinoma revealed suboptimal control of cardiovascular risk factors, leading to increased risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and mortality. Black race was associated with a higher risk of uncontrolled risk factors. The findings underscore the need for targeted interventions to mitigate cardiac risk in this population.
